EXPLORING CORONA-THE CROWN JEWEL OF QUEENS
Details
You may have heard of Corona from the legendary Lemon Ice King of Corona (which we can visit), or the Queen of Corona from a pop song. But there is lots more to see in this diverse Queens neighborhood. Corona is the birthplace of professional baseball. It is also where musicians Dizzy Gillespie as well as world famous Louis Armstrong made home. We will visit the grounds of the Armstrong house, located across from a new museum commemorating his life. The Gillespie home recently became a NYC landmark. The Langston Hughes Community library has excellent exhibitions, and we will visit an interesting gallery there as well. We end our day where we began.
We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles, stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs).
Precipitation or even questionable forecast may cancel, postpone or modify; check website for latest updates. We start at 12:30 PM in front of Walgreens at 103-14 Roosevelt Avenue. To get there take the 7 train to 103 St-Corona Plaza, and exit on south side if open (otherwise north side).
You have an option of signing a paper liability waiver at the meeting place, but encouraged to do so online on the AMC website by clicking on link below:
