What we’re about
The Appalachian Mountain Club (“AMC”) is one of the oldest outdoors groups in the United States. We offer activities for all types and levels of outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, bicycling and more!
AMC has 12 regional chapters in the Northeast region that stretch from Maine to Washington, D.C. The New York-North Jersey Chapter is the second largest with over 12,000 members. We have over 100,000 members nationally.
Young Members (“YM”) is an affinity group within AMC for members in their 20’s and 30’s. YM holds monthly outdoors events (e.g., day hikes, camping trips, kayaking trips) and a happy hour on every third Thursday of the month (“Thirsty Third Thursdays”). A few times a year, we hold inter-chapter events with YM groups from the 11 other chapters in our organization.
If you’re interested in the outdoors and are looking to make new friends, then please come to one of our events. Please note that we’re open to everyone, including “non-members”!

Join AMC’s Concrete to Trails Bus Trips
Discover wild places just beyond the city limits—no Uber, Lyft or train ticket required! AMC’s Concrete to Trails program offers weekly Saturday bus trips from New York City to stunning natural areas that are typically hard to reach without a vehicle. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply seeking fresh air and new views, these outings make it easy to escape the pavement and step into nature.Westmoreland Sanctuary
The hike will cover approximately 5 miles of hilly terrain with an elevation gain of approximately 500 feet. This will take us about 2.5 hours and will be followed by a picnic with benches/tables. There will be restrooms available. Westmoreland Sanctuary is a 669 acre nature center and has a Natural Science Museum. With over 300 species of birds the sanctuary will provide us the opportunity to 'respect wildlife' as well as 'be considerate of others' as we will be sharing the park with park inhabitants as well as picnic invitees. What to Bring:

Register at: Bronx River Pathway Walk from Kensico Dam
Meetup RSVP is not sufficient.Let's visit one of the prettiest inland greenways in our area! Today we'll explore the Bronx River Pathway in Westchester County.
We'll start at the Kensico Dam Plaza, a park created in 1963 around the dam built in 1917 to support New York City's Catskill water supply. To this day, the dam is operated by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The Bronx River Pathway is part of the 807-acres Bronx River Parkway Reservation, Westchester's first county park and one of the oldest linear parks in the country. This flat, paved path winds along the Bronx River, crossing over numerous adorable walking bridges and under low-head stone bridges. Along the way, we'll stop for breaks and lunch on one of the green lawns.
Since there are a few easily accessible Metro North train stations along the Bronx River Pathway, participants can choose to break off at any point based on how you feel that day. Or, you can walk with the leader to Crestwood train station for a total of 9.5 miles.
Public Transportation is available. Take Metro North (Harlem Line) to the Valhalla Train Station. The Leader will travel on the 9:14am train from Grand Central Station arriving at Valhalla Station at 10:01am and then will walk to Kensico Dam Plaza. Find her in the train's front car.
