Sloterplas is the heart of New West, a place where people walk, exercise, relax and meet. But are we really looking closely at how special this environment is? Along the banks of the lake lies a surprisingly rich piece of urban nature. During this walk we will discover special plants, look for lizards and consider how we can strengthen this nature and continue to enjoy it. Together with experts and neighbors we will take a fresh look at this familiar place. Rediscover the nature of a place you thought you knew and see New-West with different eyes.

About the speaker:
Aura Luz Melis is an architect and partner of the Amsterdam based office Inside Outside. Her interdisciplinary approach was formed through the wide range of projects and scales she has worked on in different contexts and climates around the world, many of which connect landscape to architecture and interior design. Last year she was invited as artist in residence at the van Eesteren Museum where she focused on the future of the Sloterplas, from a landscape and social perspective. With the Inside Outside team she is currently researching the development of a visual language for soil life. The aim of this research is to get a deeper understanding of soil life as a potential and strategic tool for the development of landscape projects. Another ongoing research is the ability of textiles to become bioreceptive allowing microorganisms and plants to grow on them merging the textile knowledge with the landscape experience.
