We're taught that self-improvement requires focus, control, and order—but what if too much order is the very thing limiting your growth? This meetup explores theory of consciousness, informed by neuroimaging research with psychedelics, which suggests that our normal, orderly state of mind is just one point on a spectrum. Temporarily embracing a more "entropic" or flexible state can be the key to breaking rigid patterns, unlocking profound creativity, and facilitating lasting change.

Join us for an engaging evening where we will:

  1. Unpack the Insight: Dive into the "Entropic Brain" theory. We'll explore how the brain balances order and chaos, and why psychedelic states, dreaming, and other "primary" states are characterized by heightened brain entropy—leading to ego-dissolution, novel connections, and spiritual insights.
  2. Discuss the Implications: What does this mean for personal development, therapy, and creativity? We'll discuss the potential of "shaking the snow globe" of the mind to disrupt negative loops, enhance psychological flexibility, and why a "critical" brain might be a happier, more adaptive brain.
  3. Explore Effective Strategies: We will discuss how forms of meditation, sensory deprivation, and breathwork are applied to increase mental entropy and help us access a more flexible and insightful state of mind.
