Details

First meeting, the time. and place are tentative to gauge interest. We will adjust to try and get the best possible attendance since this is still a new, small group.

We'll talk about Peter Singer's drowning child in a shallow pond parable. He first wrote about it in an essay called Famine, Affluence and Morality but you don't have to read the whole thing. Just find the parable and read it and we'll recap and discuss whether he's got a point or not. We will try to examine the absolute best arguments which agree with Singer's position and the best arguments against it. What are our obligations here? Is Singer right that distance has no moral significance? How can and how should we apply this to our lives?

Try to have at least one argument for and one argument against.
