Join us for a laidback walk through one of the most peaceful corners of the North Coast in the charming village of Fão.

This easy circular route takes us from the calm waters of the Cávado River to the open breeze of the Atlantic Ocean, weaving through wetlands, pinewoods, and coastal dunes. It’s a perfect mix of sea air, bird calls, and soft sandy paths — no rush, no steep climbs, just the soothing rhythm of nature over 5miles / 8km .

Expect beautiful views, a chance to feel the sand beneath your feet, and plenty of time to chat, pause for photos, or simply take in the scenery. No special stamina required — just comfortable shoes and a relaxed spirit.

Yet our day is far from over, we’ll be heading up the Cávado, not only a few miles upriver, but a thousand feet over the land to the Hill of Franqueira, a peaceful sanctuary crowned by a centuries-old chapel and sweeping views that stretch all the way to the Atlantic. We’ll follow gentle trails through pine and oaks, uncovering legends of devotion, medieval pilgrimages, and the hidden charms of rural life that still echo across these hills.

Then we descend into Barcelos, the main city that straddles this rive but also the colourful cradle of the famous Portuguese Rooster – let us find out together out this became a national symbol! Between tiled façades, artisan workshops, and the lively riverside market square, we’ll wander through stories of potters, pilgrims, and princes — and perhaps share a glass of local vinho verde along the way. It’s a perfect blend of history, scenery, and the relaxed joy that defines northern Portugal.
