Join me for a look around No.1 Royal Crescent, a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse museum in Bath. Step into the world of 18th-century elegance and explore how the fashionable elite—and their servants—lived, dined, and decorated their homes.
We’ll see: “The Most Tiresome Place in the World”: Jane Austen & Bath, a special exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth. Letters, manuscripts, and contemporary accounts, explore her complex relationship with the city that inspired both her wit and her weariness.
We’ll also see: the immersive Georgians at Home experience, where film and sound bring the house to life. As we wander through the rooms, we’ll get a vivid sense of daily life for both the genteel residents upstairs and the hardworking staff below stairs.
Afterwards we’ll go for refreshments.

Cost: £16.00 for adults, 25% off with Discovery Card, 50% off with Art Fund.
We’ll meet outside the door of No.1 Royal Crescent, Bath, BA1 2LR.
If you’re late, you’ll need to find us in the exhibition. I carry a silver backpack handbag.
Please look at the event page the night before and the morning of the event, in case of any updates.

**From their website: "**Life as a Georgian was spectacular – that is, if you were wealthy… Step into a world of historic splendour at the first house built on the Royal Crescent 250 years ago. Discover how our wealthy Georgian forebears would have lived, the food they would have eaten and the art they would have enjoyed looking at… then take a trip below stairs to find out what life was like for everybody else!

Jane Austen had a complicated relationship with Bath. The scandals and shallowness of the city fuelled her cynicism and wit, and nothing escaped her scathing pen. And yet she wrote very little while living in the city. Letters, contemporary responses and the only manuscript she wrote in Bath will reveal the highs and lows of her time here, as this exhibition exposes how turbulence and loss cast a long shadow over Jane Austen and Bath.
Georgians at Home – Immersive Experience

As you move through the rooms of the house you will eavesdrop on their day, finding out how they lived in the Georgian city, issues and challenges of the day as well as details about Bath. You will also meet the servants and understand the different lives they led. Self-led (immersive experience) or guided tours available."
