Veterans Day - Low-Moderate Local Hike at Moreau!
Details
Moreau is one of our easy-to-get-to local faves. Great excuse to get in some exercise while taking in nature for those who are off from work.
Given the temps dipping at night, there may be a dusting of snow on the upper parts of the summit trail, and likely some ice/mud underneath, so water proof hiking boots are a must.
We will start out with the climb up to the summit which is a 2.0-mile out and back to the same parking lot trailhead starting point. Then, for those who want to get in some distance in (albeit pretty flat) we will do the 4.0-mile Mud Pond and Moreau Lake loop.
This hike is considered low-moderate, but we will be strive to go at a healthy pace. The summit trail has a couple small technical parts and single file sections. But it is pretty much a steady gradual climb, that will get the heart rate up. Therefore you MUST be physically fit enough to complete it at an intermediate pace!! (Kids 12 and up are fine for this one).
The trails can be popular in good weather, and there are lots of different trailheads in the park. But we will be meeting in the parking lot by the swimming beach’s nature/center lifeguard buildings as there is a ton of parking at that spot. There are also a couple porta-potties as the buildings are not open.
We will meet at the parking area at 11:30am and leave for the hike at 11:45am sharp.
PLEASE BRING: Water (or Coca-Cola) and snacks. Wear multiple non-cotton layers. Forecast is for temperatures in the mid to high 30s. While rain isn’t expected be prepared if it does, with a rain poncho or waterproof jacket. If folks are up for it afterwards, there are a couple great spots for a bite and beverage in nearby Glens Falls.
If you have any other questions on this hike please feel free to message me (Alec).
