Lochinvar to Singleton Cycle, One or Two Days, 45kms or 90kms

Details

This will be a nice backcountry ride on the rural roads from Lochinvar to Singleton. I have picked this ride as it is relatively close to Sydney, is on quiet roads and allows the option of doing a one or two-day ride by utilising the adjacent railway line.

The plan is to arrive at Lochinvar Takeaway at 10AM on Saturday 28 June. We will have time for a coffee and morning tea before setting off on our ride. We take Luskintyre Road and cross the Hunter River before joining Stanhope Road and Elderslie Road. Elderslie is halfway on our ride and there is the option of riding 8km to Branxton Station for anyone struggling to ride another 23kms to Singleton. For those continuing, it is another 23kms along undulating Glendon Road and into Singleton. "Singo" is an historic town with plenty of places to have dinner and for accommodation.

On Sunday morning we can have breakfast in Singleton and then ride back to Lochinvar but there is the option of taking a slightly longer route through Mitchells Flat. If the weather is terrible we can get the 7.26AM or 3.34PM train back to Lochinvar.

One or two day options explained. For those wanting to do only a one day option, you may simply ride to Singleton Station to put your bike on the 3.34PM train back to Lochinvar and to your vehicle. For those wishing to do the two day option you will need to book your accommodation in Singleton. Singleton has plenty of accommodation, the cheapest being The Royal Hotel at $63 per night, otherwise there are plenty of motels. See booking.com for your options.

The ride. We will be on quiet rural roads the whole way. All roads are bitumen. Please note that there are no shops or toilets on the ride. It is recommended that in lieu of lunch you have a good-sized morning tea at Lochinvar and a late lunch at Singleton. You will need to take about 1.5 litres of water each day. Please also take a spare tube and a kit for replacing a tube if required.

Re transport of gear. You will need to carry your own clothes and gear if you are doing the two day option. This means it is recommended that you carry your change of clothes, toiletries and any other items such as snacks. A hiking-style backpack or a bike luggage rack will be required to carry your gear.

Safety. I will take an EPIRB and first aid kit. I will also have walkie-talkies for communication.

There will be a $20 gratuity for this ride, payable in cash at the commencement or via PayID to 0439543695.
