Point Clare to Woy Woy Via Glyphs and Spion Kop, Medium Difficulty, 16kms

Details

On this 16km walk from Point Clare to Woy Woy we will visit two of the best features in the northern section of Brisbane Water National Park, namely Kariong Glyphs and the very impressive Spion Kop Lookout.

The plan is to meet at Point Clare Railway Station at 9.11AM on Sunday 25 May, this is the time that the 7.48AM Central to Wyong train arrives at Point Clare station. Please be aware that YOU MUST TRAVEL IN THE REAR FOUR CARS TO EXIT THE TRAIN AT POINT CLARE STATION. THE PUBLIC TOILETS AT POINT CLARE STATION WILL BE THE LAST AVAILABLE TOILETS BEFORE ARRIVING BACK AT WOY WOY.

After leaving the station we walk along Brisbane Water Drive and Penang Street before joining the unnamed trail that links to Milyerra Road Firetrail and Corrumbine Creek Firetrail. After four kilometres of walking we arrive at the Kariong Glyphs; you can decide if these are a calling card from and ancient Egyptian visitation to the Central coast or a more contemporary addition.

After Kariong Glyphs we join Bambara Road and Koolewong Firetrail before joining the walking trail to Spion Kop, after three kilometres we arrive at Spion Kop lookout which affords an awesome view over Woy Woy Bay and to the ocean. We then head back Koolewong Firetrail and make the steep descent to Spike Milligan Bridge and Woy Woy.

For this walk you will need good walking shoes, your lunch and approximately two litres of water. Please note that this is a walk of moderate difficulty with some moderately rough and muddy sections and a steep descent at the end. There are no shops or "get-out" points after leaving Point Clare and no toilets between Point Clare and Woy Woy.

There will be a $10 gratuity payable at the commencement of this walk. All gratuity money will be donated to Sleapy's Foundation.
