Pindar Cave Falls from Wondabyne Station - Hard
Details
This is an adventurous trail in the Brisbane Water National Park, located not too far west of Woy Woy. This out-and-back trail begins and ends at the Wondabyne Station.
The trail offers a variety of terrain, from steep to flat, rainforest to fire trail, rocky platforms and lookouts to narrow and, at times, overgrown track.
Some of the trail's highlights include Mount Pindar Lookout where we can stop for lunch, and Mooney Mooney Creek Lookout.
The main attraction of the walk is Pindar Cave which is a large expanse of overhanging sandstone rock and is about 50m long. We will also check out Pindar Falls, and Pindar pool so bring your bathing suit, because we will use the falls or pool to cool off if there is enough water.
Distance - 12.4km (out and back)
Elevation gain - 453m
Estimated time - 4–4.5hr
Transport
You cannot drive to Wondabyne station which can only be accessed by train from Sydney heading north or from Newcastle heading south.
Trains leave from central on Saturdays at 07:48am and arrive at Wondabyne at 8:58am
Trains leave from Newcastle interchange on Saturdays at 06:58am and arrive at Wondabyne at 08:48am
IMPORTANT
Make sure you are in the correct carriage (usually the last carriage - Number 10) because the platform is only one carriage long and only the doors on this carriage will open at Wondabyne.
You will also need to tell the guard you want to get off at Wondabyne and they will be located at the very end of the train.
Please note
This trail is narrow in places so we will occasionally be getting up close with the native flora.
Summer means ticks are more prevalent and I will be carrying a freezing spray and insect repellent, but it is best to stay aware and monitor this on the walk.
