This is not only one of the best walks in the Lower Mountains, its also one of the quietest.
We meet at Faulconbridge Train Station at 9.50am (on top of the stairs after tapping off).
From here we head down Sir Henrys Parade to the Corridor of Oaks Park where the trail begins.
We take Victory Track, which has a few bush stairs initially but leads down toward a dell with a narrow creek that soon drops over Clarinda Falls. The air will be thick with birdsong at this point, and this part of the walk follows watercourses, criss-crossing them with many shallow fords along its length. We will see that the rainforest here is home to many lofty and elegant trees that soar straight up for about 30 metres before the first branches.
We will stop at Victory Track Pool for a break and a swim.
As we continue along Victory Track we will stop at other pools, for a swim or two or maybe more if it’s a hot day.
But after that comes the hard bit, a steep climb to Martin’s Lookout followed by a 60-minute walk back to Springwood Station (I guess you could Uber it if you had to).
Just out of interest, Faulconbridge was originally the estate home of Sir Henry Parkes, the father of Federation. He named the area after his mother’s maiden surname (Faulconbridge is a 13-letter word that contains exactly half the alphabet, including all the vowels, and no repeats).
We will aim to finish by 4pm at Springwood Train Station from which we can catch a train back to Sydney.
If you’re travelling by car, plenty of commuter parking at both Faulconbridge and Springwood stations and side streets. Probably better to park at Springwood and hop on the train to Faulconbridge.
