An introduction to general semantics (GS) formulations, useful for evaluating topics, you are skeptical about.
Formulations we will cover:
Word meaning is not in words, but in the people who use them.
Expect to misunderstand and be misunderstood.
“What do you mean?” and “How do you know.”
Map – territory analogy.
Map ~ territory relationship.
Assumptions / premises / postulates. GS premises.
Abstracting (delete, distort, generalise). Visual illusions, to show some abstracting processes.
Fact – inference confusion.
Extra factor idea
Verbal problems from old terminology
Projection – to me. Identification – indexing. Either / Or – degree / Probability theory, etc.
Alternative hypotheses
Post hoc ergo propter hoc (error) => comes after therefore because of.
