Challenging Resilience: Does it really protect us from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?

In business, society, and in popular psychology, resilience is seen as a key remedy for dealing with stress and hardship. It is most often understood as a personal characteristic. One that enables an individual to withstand and bounce back from the challenges of life. In this interactive session, DR MICHAEL CAVANAGH will explore the origins of this understanding of resilience, the function it serves in society, and the inability of this approach to help people genuinely cope with the hardships of life.

Starting from a complex systems perspective, Michael will present a new model of resilience that takes seriously the task of responding to "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" in today’s complex world.

Michael is an internationally recognised coach, academic, and consultant in the fields of leadership and coaching psychology. Michael’s work focuses on preparing leaders, teams and coaches to work in complex settings.
