Speaker - Dr Stevan Nikolin: From pharmaceuticals to electroceuticals; how zapping the brain can treat depression

Stevan Nikolin has a PhD (2019) in neuromodulation and electrophysiology and is an early career researcher based at the University of New South Wales and Black Dog Institute. He has a broad background in psychology, with specific training and expertise in electroencephalography (EEG) and advanced data analysis methods. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of action of neuromodulatory techniques using neuropsychological and electrophysiological outcomes. Specifically, the EEG effects of non-invasive brain stimulation as a therapeutic intervention in psychiatric disorders, such as depression, as well as for cognitive enhancement in healthy participants. He has published over 20 peer reviewed papers and 2 book chapters on brain stimulation. He coordinates all of the EEG studies conducted at the Black Dog Institute. As a nationally recognised expert on the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression, he has travelled and provided on-site training to 21 public hospitals and private clinics in 4 Australian states/territories and credentialed approximately 200 Nurses and Psychiatrists on safe and effective delivery of transcranial magnetic stimulation.
