Think Again! Shane Greenup will talk about how breaking confirmation bias bubbles is the next stage of the information revolution.

Given that everyone in our modern world has access to virtually all human knowledge, and the ability to find whatever they want and discover useful information, why are there so many people stuck clinging to erroneous beliefs?

rbutr is a project which aims to burst confirmation bias bubbles and expose people to alternative positions while they browse the internet, rather than letting them sit within 'neighbourhoods' of websites which all agree with each other, often reinforcing false ideas. We can organise the information available on the internet to make it more effective. We can finally end the problem of only ever 'preaching to the converted'. And we can ensure everyone has the chance to be fully informed, not just convinced by their information source of choice....

Shane Greenup is an entrepreneur, a philosopher, a scientist, a skeptic, a transhumanist, a traveler, and an extreme sports enthusiast. He graduated from the University of New South Wales with majors in Philosophy, Molecular Biology (Hons), and History and Philosophy of Science before stumbling in to his own online business which he has been operating successfully for 7 years now. He is one of the cofounders of rbutr, a project which aims to connect internet users to online rebuttals, and completely change the way information is accessed online.
