What we’re about

The Southern Sierra Conditioning Hikes club features three levels of conditioning hikes presented at Hart Park east of Bakersfield. Hart Park provides the bluffs needed for the extra strength training hills can provide compared to the flat lands of west Bakersfield. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, opportunity for you to improve your physical fitness, enabling you to be in better shape for longer day hikes and camping trips to the many beautiful, awe-inspiring areas.

Check the schedule for Beginners, Intermediate (or Moderate), and Advanced. The hikes are between 3 to 6 miles and completed in 1.5 to 2 hours. We have had great success helping new and returning hikers! It's a lot of fun doing these roller coaster type hikes while getting to know new friends.

Our sister group, Southern Sierra Hiking Club, provides hiking activities all year round in the mountains and wilderness areas in California. If not already a member, you are welcome to join them also.  Hiking areas feature the Sequoia National Forest, Sequoia National Park, and the Giant Sequoia National Monument. They hike on trails, scramble, climb peaks, go cross country, snowshoe, and backpack. Other areas to hike include the Tehachapi and San Emigdio Mountains, the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests, AND, extended holiday adventures to popular multi-state destinations!
