This Place | That Place: An Interactive Book Experience
Step beyond the page with This Place | That Place: a unique, interactive experience based on the novel by Dr. Nandita Dinesh. Blending literature with opportunities for the audience to engage, this event departs from the traditional book reading format to offer a participatory journey into themes of war, identity, and displacement. Drawing on her background as a theatre maker and educator, Nandita Dinesh invites attendees to reflect, observe, and— if they wish— take part in storytelling and dialogue-based activities. Whether you choose to speak, listen, or both, your presence will shape an exploration of the creative and nuanced conversations that embodied engagements with literature can spark. Discover more about Nandita's work at www.NanditaDinesh.com.This is a ticketed event. Tickets can be booked here.
- Write the MissionManny's, San Francisco, CA
Join us for a one-of-a-kind creative writing experience inspired by Dr. Nandita Dinesh’s acclaimed works Creative Writing and the Experiences of Others and An Interactive Book for Adventurous Readers.
This dynamic workshop invites participants to engage deeply with the Mission District through guided writing prompts, sensory exploration of the neighborhood, and reflective storytelling. We'll start with warm-up exercises to spark curiosity and build creative momentum, then venture into the streets surrounding Manny's to draw inspiration from the colors, sounds, and spirit of the surrounding blocks. Returning to Manny’s, we’ll write and share pieces that honor place, imagination, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or simply curious, this workshop offers a powerful way to see, and write, the world anew. Open to participants 18+
- Write the World: Monthly Virtual GatheringsLink visible for attendees
Once a month, we gather online for two hours of shared creativity. Each workshop is led by a different member of the Grey Zones collective — writers, artists, and storytellers from all over the world — each bringing their own spark, with guidance and support from Nandita.
These sessions go beyond writing. They are about:- Meeting kindred spirits from places as far apart as Greece, Singapore, India, Trinidad, Kenya, the US, and the UK.
- Discovering how to hold space for others: skills that will serve you in teaching, facilitation, or any community-driven work.
- Playing with new ways to tell stories while being rooted in noticing and responding to what’s happening in the world right now.
All you need to do is become a monthly or annual subscriber to Grey Zones.
