DS Meetup 2025-12: Streaming Personalization and GridEyes
Details
To all data enthusiasts in Bergen, let’s meet up, learn, and connect!
17:00-17:20—mingling and food
17:20-17:50—"Streaming Personalization" with Snorre Alvsvåg, backend developer and data scientist at TV2.
Recommending content to users on a video streaming platform differs from other domains by way of the content itself, the users commitment to a content, and their interests drifting or changing based on variables outside of our control. In TV 2 we solve this issue through traditional methods, following in the footsteps of Academia and Industry, adjusting techniques and knowledge to our domain and product, but look towards a possible change of tactic, where we mix models and signals based on many more factors then just general interest. In this talk I will showcase how we use personalisation algorithms on TV 2's streaming platform TV 2 Play, some of the issues we face, and possible horizons.
17:50-18:20—"GridEyes" with Michele Gazzea, Senior Data Scientist at StormGeo.
The talk will present "GridEyes", an online geospatial analytics platform that provides powerline operators with real-time insight into the state of their infrastructure, focused on grid reliability and vegetation risk. The platform integrates land-use segmentation, building and vegetation detection, canopy-height modeling, tree-species classification, risk analysis, and weather analytics to help utilities monitor their networks more efficiently and proactively. We’ll go through the key ML and remote-sensing methods behind these capabilities and the experiences from recent deployments with Norwegian grid operators.

If your company or school would be interested in sponsoring an upcoming event, please let us know. We'd like this to be a community-led event, and we rely on venue and food sponsors to make that happen. Venue sponsors will have priority for a presenter slot. Share with us the cool stuff that's happening at your organization!
