About us
Welcome to the Berkshire Walkers (BWs). The BW group is a part of the Ramblers, a national charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to improving Britain’s most popular and least-known walking places. The Ramblers are committed to campaigning to keep our countryside open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers. The Ramblers lead the way, and the walks, for a vibrant community united by the joys of walking, helping everyone get more out of their walks.
All participants of all group events are required to adhere to our Group Charter and Ramblers Values - https://www.berkshirewalkers.co.uk/conduct-and-safeguarding/
You can enjoy 3 taster walks with the Berkshire Walkers for FREE, after which you are required to become a member. Annual membership is exceptionally reasonable (just over £3.50pm on Direct Debit).
With membership, you can also join any of the other 500 Rambler groups, including other Berkshire groups and those nearby in Surrey, Sussex, Oxford, and Hampshire. What's not to like! Find out how to join here: https://www.berkshirewalkers.co.uk/join-group/
Groups are run entirely by local volunteers. Local group activities can include inspecting and maintaining paths, organising group walks or running local campaigns. Each group is run by an elected committee giving members ownership of what we do locally. We have over 100,000 members.
Please note: we list a full event programme on our website of walks, socials and trips: https://www.berkshirewalkers.co.uk/

Thames Path Part Three: Putney Bridge to Kingston, 13 miles, Moderate
Putney Bridge Station, Station Approach, London SW6 3UH, GBThe Thames Path is a 182 mile National Trail stretching from London to Gloucestershire. This year, the group will aim to cover the whole trail from start to finish! This initial 5 part series will involve covering the “London” section of the Path from its start in Woolwich up to Windsor.
To add some fun to our adventure, you are encouraged to purchase the Thames Passport where we will collect stamps at over 30 stamping stations along the Path. Collect stamps at all the various stations and you can receive a Certificate of Completion for doing the whole trail from start to finish! The link to purchase the passport is here: https://walkthethames.co.uk/thames-path-passport/
As Part Three of our Thames Adventure progresses, we start to move towards the leafier parts of London. Commencing from where we left off on the second leg, we will set off from Putney Bridge towards Barnes where we will see a bollard that marks the start of the annual University Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge. Continuing the rowing theme, we will pass a number of rowing clubs and boathouses, then under Hammersmith Bridge and towards Barnes Bridge. Here, we will cross to the other side of the river and eventually arrive at Strand-on-the-Green where we will collect another stamp at the Bull’s Head pub.
We will then cross back over Kew Railway Bridge and follow the path parallel to Kew Gardens and towards the Old Deer Park where we will have lunch.
Afterwards, we will continue on to Richmond, including the first lock of the trail, and have a café stop at Tide Tables Café collecting another stamp whilst there.
Once refreshed, we will walk alongside Petersham Meadows below Richmond Hill, with Marble House in full view on the other side of the bank. We will reach Teddington Lock which marks the end of the tidal Thames and our final section will take us to Kingston for the conclusion of another leg.

As Kingston is not on the Tube, you will need to get a separate single ticket to Twickenham and then change here to get back to Reading. If your travel plans differ from this, please feel free to ask the walk leaders for suggestions on what may be suitable.Dogs

Sunday Stroll: Harwell, 5 miles, Leisurely
Harwell Campus, Didcot, Oxfordshire OX11 0QX, GBThis 5-mile circular walk explores the landscapes around Harwell Campus and East Hendred Down, combining cutting-edge science with classic Oxfordshire countryside.
We begin at Harwell Campus, one of the UK’s leading science and innovation centres, home to world-renowned facilities such as the Science and Technology Facilities Council and major research infrastructure including the Diamond Light Source. As we leave the campus behind, we head west towards Ardington, passing near East Hendred and gradually exchanging laboratories and research buildings for open fields and wide views.
Turning towards the ancient trackway of the The Ridgeway, we enjoy the views before avoiding the steep climb and instead following the gentler contours of East Hendred Down.
We then loop back towards Harwell Campus, skirting its boundary and reflecting on the contrast between this peaceful rural landscape and the world-class scientific work taking place just beyond the hedgerows, before returning to our starting point.
