What we’re about
Happy New Year, #Wildreaders!
[Updated: 12.28.25]
Are you excited for the next reading year? I know I am. Before we talk about 2026, I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for continuing to make BGC Book Club such a special space.
Over the past year, we shared wonderful reads, thoughtful discussions, and meaningful moments both online and in person. From deep dives into stories to bookworm hang-outs where the real currency exchanged was perspective, this community continues to be something I’m deeply grateful for.
As we step into the new year, I’m excited to share our 2026 annual theme: "Lost in Translation".
Last year, a friend gifted me a beautiful companion card set from Ella Frances Sanders’ book Lost in Translation. Beyond their beauty, the cards introduced words from around the world that don’t translate neatly into English... words that capture emotions, moments, and human experiences we all recognize, even if we’ve never named them.
Some feelings don’t translate neatly.
Some moments don’t fit into one language.
But books—books come close.
For 2026, our monthly themes will be inspired by these untranslatable words. Each month, we’ll explore books that capture the essence of a word: longing, connection, tenderness, joy, heartbreak, wonder. Not literal translations, but stories that feel like the word.
What stays the same (and very much alive):
✨ Member-led discussions will continue. Members are encouraged to choose, champion, and facilitate books—because diverse voices and shared discourse are what make this club thrive.
✨ Our familiar rhythm remains:
- 📘 Book of the Month revealed every first Saturday of the month
(with the word + book reveal posted on IG every first Sunday) - 💬 Book Club Discussions on the last Wednesday, 6:30–8:00 PM
- ☕ Bookworm Hangouts continue monthly on a Wednesday
(dates may occasionally shift)
As in previous years, whether you’ve been with us for a long time or are just finding your way here, we’re so happy to have you as part of this reading journey. 2026 is about reading between the lines, sitting with nuance, and finding connection in the spaces where words fall short.
Here’s to a year of stories that say what words alone cannot.
See you on our favorite Wednesday 📚
Warmly,
Mary
