What we’re about
The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay was formed in 1987, and helped to create the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 1988. The work of BTCEB is essential in developing the mountain biking culture and keeping trails open for local mountain biking. The BTCEB Meetup.com group was established by the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay (btceb.org). and is a tool for bringing us all, veteran and new riders, together for a great time. By joining BTCEB you'll be supporting grassroots mountain bike advocacy, meet other mountain bikers, and learn about great trails to ride.
STAY INFORMED with our monthly e-newsletter with all the latest events, trail work days, Youth Mountain Bike Adventure, Oakland Bike Patrol programs, social outings, and advocacy news.
VOLUNTEER FOR TRAIL WORK - it is sweat equity. Land managers appreciate reliable, competent volunteers.
COME OUT AND RIDE. We have a group ride calendar with over 5000 members and host several monthly rides. Our women-only ride, Ride Like a Girl, is on the 1st Saturday of the month. Our marquee ride is the monthly Gala Ride which is usually held the last Saturday of the month. The Gala rides are led by experienced local riders who know the trails and offer a group for all skill and fitness levels. Afterward, we regroup for snacks and refreshments. This is a great way to learn new trails and meet others from the east bay at your skill level.
E-BIKES are generally welcome on our Gala rides when the trail system allows them (e.g. EBRPD, China Camp, Tamarancho). If a ride is not open to e-bikes, it will usually be noted on the specific event listing but please know where you are allowed ride to be safe. Like acoustic riders, e-riders are expected to ride within their skill level and stay with their chosen group.
MEMBERSHIPS. We rely on PAID memberships to continue to advocate for and maintain trails and access issues that are important to you,
Happy Trails!

See all- Ride Like a Girl – Women's MTB Ride – Soquel Demonstration ForestSoquel Demonstration Trail Head, Los Gatos, CA
After the emerald mellowness of Fernandez Ranch last month, it's time for an adventure! For May, we're heading South to Soquel Demonstration Forest to ride the newly buffed Flow Trail, which is mountain bike heaven. And the rest of the ride ain't bad, either.
Join me, Rebecca Lewington, in the parking lot off Highland Way. We’ll start to gather at 9:00am, which will give us plenty of time to sign in and talk about the ride before we roll at 9:30am. (Yes, that's half an hour later than usual).
Our basic route will cover 14 miles with 2,000 feet of climbing. Please note that this ride is not suitable for beginners. Intermediate riders will be fine, but should be prepared to walk a couple of short, rocky sections of the Ridge Trail which are tricky even for experienced riders.
For those who are feeling frisky, there will be the option of a second helping of Flow. This puts the total ride at a not-inconsiderable 22 miles with 3,600' of climb, but that second run is always the best! It's worth putting in some miles over the next couple of weeks to get ready for this. Seriously.
As always, the mission of Ride Like a Girl is to have fun, learn new trails and meet other women (cis, trans and femme) who love to mountain bike. We’ll take care of you: these are stress-free rides where no one is left behind.
Please bring your mountain bike, obviously, in good working condition. (No ebikes, please. Ride Like a Girl is strictly muscle-powered.) Whether you’re running tubeless tires or not, please make sure you have a spare inner tube to fit your wheels, plenty of water and some food for the trail.
We always hang out for a while after the ride, so bring along your favorite beverages and snacks if you feel like it. And a chair! If you need a ride, or want to set up a carpool, leave a comment and we'll see what the group can come up with.
And please consider joining BTCEB. We are much more than a group that puts on rides. BTCEB tirelessly advocates for better bike access on trails in the East Bay and we need your support. Join today at https://btceb.org/join-us/.
If you have questions, ask 'em below and we’ll get right back to you.
