What we’re about
The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay was formed in 1987, and helped to create the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 1988. The work of BTCEB is essential in developing the mountain biking culture and keeping trails open for local mountain biking. The BTCEB Meetup.com group was established by the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay (btceb.org). and is a tool for bringing us all, veteran and new riders, together for a great time. By joining BTCEB you'll be supporting grassroots mountain bike advocacy, meet other mountain bikers, and learn about great trails to ride.
STAY INFORMED with our monthly e-newsletter with all the latest events, trail work days, Youth Mountain Bike Adventure, Oakland Bike Patrol programs, social outings, and advocacy news.
VOLUNTEER FOR TRAIL WORK - it is sweat equity. Land managers appreciate reliable, competent volunteers.
COME OUT AND RIDE. We have a group ride calendar with over 5000 members and host several monthly rides. Our women-only ride, Ride Like a Girl, is on the 1st Saturday of the month. Our marquee ride is the monthly Gala Ride which is usually held the last Saturday of the month. The Gala rides are led by experienced local riders who know the trails and offer a group for all skill and fitness levels. Afterward, we regroup for snacks and refreshments. This is a great way to learn new trails and meet others from the east bay at your skill level.
E-BIKES are generally welcome on our Gala rides when the trail system allows them (e.g. EBRPD, China Camp, Tamarancho). If a ride is not open to e-bikes, it will usually be noted on the specific event listing but please know where you are allowed ride to be safe. Like acoustic riders, e-riders are expected to ride within their skill level and stay with their chosen group.
MEMBERSHIPS. We rely on PAID memberships to continue to advocate for and maintain trails and access issues that are important to you,
Happy Trails!

- Ride Like a Girl Anniversary Edition at Joaquin Miller + BBQ!3594 Sanborn Dr, Oakland, CA
July marks 15 years of Ride Like a Girl. 15 years of women supporting women. 15 years of fun and new friendships.
To celebrate, we're going to hit the nifty singletrack of Joaquin Miller Park and then we have a special treat: fearless ride leader Heather lives just down the hill from Joaquin Miller and we're all invited over for a barbecue! She will likely grill some chicken and veggies, and make a side salad. Bring your favorite beverage, maybe even a side dish, and come and hang with us.
But before that, we ride. Join leaders Rebecca and Heather at 8:30am at the Elephant Barn parking lot in Joaquin Miller Park, 3594 Sanborn Drive, Oakland, CA 94602. We'll gather up for a quick huddle to talk about the ride at about 8:45, and roll by 9:00 am.
To get to the parking lot, head up Joaquin Miller Rd to the park entrance and turn into the park on Sanborn Dr. Go just past the community center/ranger station lot and make the next left.
We'll split into two groups. The Teal group will cover about 12 miles with 1,700 feet of climbing. The Denim group will be a bit more challenging, covering about 16 miles with 2,500 feet of climbing. Note that some of these trails aren't suitable for beginners. Intermediate and up will have a great time.
The mission of Ride Like a Girl is to have fun, learn new trails and meet other women (cis, trans and femme) who love to mountain bike. We’ll take care of you: these are no-stress rides where no one is left behind.
Please bring your mountain bike, obviously, in good working condition. (No ebikes, please. Ride Like a Girl is strictly acoustic.) Whether you’re running tubeless tires or not, please make sure you have a spare inner tube to fit your wheels, plenty of water and some food for the trail.
BTCEB tirelessly advocates for better bike access on trails in the East Bay and we need your support. Please consider joining today at https://btceb.org/join-us/.
If you have questions, please comment below and we’ll get right back to you.
