Reflections on the AI Safety Debate - Tiberio Caetano, Gradient Institute

Details

Reflections on the AI Safety Debate: Towards Diagnostics and Solutions
Outline:
In this talk Tiberio will dive into a few aspects of the AI Safety debate. He will touch on the concern that AI may pose an extinction risk for humanity. He will also address concerns about labour market disruptions, in particular when it comes to the practice of data science. He will also touch on what AI Safety could mean for most companies (whose core business is other than building large language models). The perspective offered will attempt at identifying elements of both diagnostics and potential solutions.
Bio:
Tiberio is a computer scientist with a background in machine learning research. He was a researcher at NICTA (now Data61) for a decade. He's held appointments at the ANU, UNSW and the University of Sydney. He co-founded a machine learning company (Ambiata) which was later acquired by IAG. He co-founded Gradient Institute, a nonprofit organisation researching, educating and advising on the responsible development and use of AI. Tiberio currently serves as Gradient Institute's chief scientist, and is also an honorary professor at the ANU and an AI advisor for the OECD.
This event will be catered as always, with food and drink. There will also be ample time for networking.
