Fakahatchee Strand hike & Lunch
Details
We will meet at the Fakahatchee Strand Park headquarters at 10:00am. It’s about 2 hours to drive from Miami. Take US41 (Tamiami Trail), past Oasis Visitor Center, take a right (north) on SR29 (Carnestown). There is a light at the intersection. Drive 3 miles on SR29 to Copeland, take a left/west into Janes Scenic Drive/837 W and right into Coastline drive. Shortly after, you will see the visitor center to the right and a lake on the left. Park there, pay the $3.00 /car fee. There are bathrooms.
Promptly at 10:00am, we will carpool to drive north on Janes Scenic to Gate 12, 6.5 miles on a dirt road. Park and wait at the picnic benches we will start our 4 mile round trip hike shortly. It is a beautiful park. We will end up at the “Fakahatchee Hilton”. We will take a break there for water and snacks. (Pls bring two bottles of water, bug spray, a hat, and a snack ). Wear comfortable closed hiking shoes. Hiking poles are recommended for muddy spots.
After we finish the hike we drive back to the rest of our cars and drive to Everglades City via SR29 for a late lunch at the Triad seafood restaurant., 401 School Dr. W.
