Mount Colah - Bobbin Head banana

This is a challenge ride for those who want some hills and thrills, - Meeting up at Mount Colah Train station at 08:45 ( the 07:47 from Central platform 16 gets you there without a train change) Check the day before as there are sometimes track work buses up the north shore line that target weekends. Currently there are no announcements.

Depart on the residential side of the station ( not the highway side) and filter through to the Ku-Rin-Gai Chase Road. There is flat bit at the top which leads into a 4km descent - 7% with hairpins and blind corners - which flattens out again at Bobbin Head - there is a toilet stop if necessary before a gentle 6% climb up to the village of North Turramurra but coffee is a kilometer or two past there in Turramurra village centre -

The banana heads back to the station - either Mount Colah or Asquith - and involves a shorter downhill section but a longer more challenging climb.

There is water at the top of the Mount Colah side - Kalkari and down in Bobbin Head - but bring sufficient as the temperature and effort will be thirsty work.

Ku-Rin-Gai national park is an historic and iconic highlight of Sydney. It has Blue Gums and diverse wildlife. Great views, and is one of the ‘3 gorges’ that cyclists have waxed lyrical about for decades. The road into and out is bendy and has some fast steep approaches to corners so great care and self preservation will be needed. Good brakes and tyres, a well maintained bike with spares -pump, inner tube, tools and your own supply of water, snacks, sunscreen ,first aid and fully charged mobile phone should be carried.

Bail options are available - after the coffee stop - heading out to Pymble Station along Bobbin Head Road ( or Turramurra station )
