Bike Prescott Safe Group-Riding Guidelines (predictability is the key to safety)
- Riders must wear a helmet. Taillights strongly suggested. Mirrors and brightly-colored clothing may help you see and be seen.
- Riders must carry emergency contact information.
- Do not wear anything in your ears that prevents you from hearing what is going on around you.
- Riders must obey traffic laws.
- Understand how to safely navigate various traffic configurations and turns. Refer to the Arizona Bicycling Street Smarts Manual. Here’s the link:
http://www.azbikeped.org/bicycling-street-smarts.asp
- Ride single-file and stay to the right except when road conditions allow.
- Don’t bunch up at traffic lights (creates traffic confusion).
- As a general rule, pass other riders on their left. Say “on your left”. If for some reason you decide to pass on someone’s right, call out: “On your right”.
- Point out hazards and route turns verbally and/or with hand signals.
- Keep together as a unit as much as possible at intersections. (“One larger thing” is more visible and less confusing to cars than “smaller separate things.”)
- Riders who want to be dropped or go off on their own must tell someone.

Helmets are required on all Bike Prescott rides, and lights are recommended for safety. EBikes are always welcome! The Thursday Fun Rides are a series of road rides designed for the less experienced rider and anyone who may want a less challenging ride. Most rides will be under 20 miles in length and as flat as we can make them given Prescott's surroundings. Pace is expected to be in the 12+ mph range, and we will ride at the pace of the slowest rider. Regroups and stops as needed.
- Freewheeling Friday - Granite Dells PlusHeritage Park, Prescott, AZ
Since I've been off the bike for a couple weeks I am planning to do a fairly easy ride through the Granite Dells area, then through the airport and finally back through Embrey Riddle. The ride starts at Heritage Park, which is on the next road past the zoo entrance and restrooms are available there.
The ride is exactly 20 miles, according to RWGPS, and is all paved. And there is a bit of up and down with about 1200 feet of climbing.
