Bioinformaticians often have a large set of command line tools and personal scripts: `blast`, `seqtk`, `bedtools` etc.
Providing LLMs access to such tools opens up many new use cases. We will provide a short introduction to the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and give some practical advice on how to make use of MCP servers.
1. We discuss how to connect to existing MCP servers such as Context7 (access up-to-date documentation) and GitHub (current state of issues and pull requests).
2. We wrap a command line tool by writing our own MCP server. Using the Pydantic AI framework, this requires fewer than 10 lines of code.
