What we’re about
WELCOME TO THE BLACK ROSE ACOUSTIC SOCIETY
Ask about acoustic music in the Colorado Springs area, and folks will undoubtedly mention The Black Rose Acoustic Society. Over 25 years ago, several local musicians formed our non-profit organization to actively foster traditional, roots music and to provide a supportive audience for acoustic musicians at all levels. Today, The Black Rose is the home of acoustic music in the Pikes Peak Region.
Twice each month, on second and fourth Fridays, we hold concerts at the Black Forest Community Center just north of Colorado Springs. On these evenings, fans gather to hear wonderful music and to experience the heart-warming ambiance of this intimate, great-sounding, log building.
We offer concerts, jams and a music school. Most events posted on Meetup are our acoustic jams.

- 4th Wednesday Open Mic (Black Rose Acoustic Society)Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort, Colorado Springs, CO
Black Rose Open Mic's are 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month at the Buffalo Lodge. There will be a sign-in sheet, and performers will play in order of sign-in. The music starts at 6PM, with an all-comers jam format starting sometime after 8PM, and we are completely finished and out by 9PM. Big thanks again to Doug C for managing the evening and setting up a good sound system.
We enjoy and make the most of our large turnout as these open mics. To best manage, note the following:
- We have an improved sign-up sheet, still playing in order of sign-up as before.
- Each act should stay within the sound system input limits (2 vocals and 2 direct inputs).
- Acts perform 2 songs instead of 3 when we reach 9 performers signed up.
- We'll have a cut-off at 14 acts.
- Assuming we are not at capacity, you can play an extra song if you are inviting up people you've got to know thanks to open mics. (We want to encourage collaboration, but not at the expense of staying on schedule. If we are at max capacity, we cannot exceed the 2 song limit.)
- You can put instrument cases in the room north of the lobby, which will allow for more spectator space.
- The Meetup event can help socialize how many performers are expected (and who). If you are planning on coming, say so via Meetup. If everyone does that, we all know how many are coming.
Note these open mic events are planned for every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from here forward.
Some more details for open mic events at the Buffalo Lodge:
- The ***Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort *** is a friendly and family-owned historic bicycle-themed motor lodge on the west side of Colorado Springs.
- There will be a mix of general public customers, tourists, and fellow musicians present.
- The Buffalo Lodge address is 2 El Paso Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO
- We will be indoors in the lobby, 1st floor of the 2-story building on your right as you arrive on the property.
- Parking: The key is to not park in front of a lodging room. A good plan: drop off your equipment, then repark your car in the back lot (far north end of the property).
- Since we control the performer schedule for the night, it will be all acoustic musicians.
- This event is best for acts of 1 to 3 players due to size constraints.
- We will have modest sound equipment for you to use. Sound system has 2 vocal mics and 2 direct inputs.
- 4th Thursday Blues JamAll Souls Unitarian Universalist Church (ASUUC), Colorado Springs, CO
Plan now to attend the Black Rose Society Blues Jam on 4th Thursdays at the All Souls Unitarian Church led by Ray DeMers, longtime blues musician and music instructor in the Pike Peak region. Come on out and play along to 20th century blues songs spanning a wide spectrum of artists from Irving Berlin to Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters to Jimi Hendrix.
Note that the songbook has been updated and we are now on version 2.0c as of April 29th. Please visit the Black Rose website to download the latest version here: songbooks available to download
Note well: Mark K put together a Spotify playlist (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7CBYdhPQN1MjARPY841MTb?si=1bbee4490bae46a9) for those wanting to learn and practice the songs before the actual jam! Thanks, Mark!
