Robertson Mountain / Corbin Hollow Loop - Strenuous
Details
Infrequently visited, but slightly taller than Old Rag, Robertson Mountain has its own secluded vibe with an interesting open area on top with views toward Skyline Drive and the valley looking south. The return via Corbin Hollow is a fine walk along Brokenback Run.
This hike will be 8.2 miles with 2,320 ft. of elevation gain. We will depart at 9:00am sharp so please arrive early enough to get ready and head out by then.
The pace will be 2-2.25mph, so make sure you are comfortable with this pace for this length and ascent before signing up. Robertson is a challenging, continuous climb to the summit.
Hiking Route: We will start from the upper Old Rag parking lot and follow the old road to the Weakley Hollow fire road until the turnoff to the Robertson mountain trail. We will head to the Robertson summit where we will stop and take in the view. We'll descend to the Old Rag fire road, take a right, and then take a right on the Corbin Hollow trail down to the fire road and back to our vehicles.
Parking: We will park at the upper Old Rag parking lot (the second left where the horse trailers/RVs park). An Old Rag day permit is NOT needed but a National Park pass is (honor system).
Dogs: No dogs on this hike. Thanks.
Rehydration: Somewhere in Sperryville if people want to.
