Ceramics teach a number of a valuable skills, including perseverance, patience, problem solving, and creativity! Bring your kiddos in to come and play with clay and learn how to use this fun medium to create functional and decorative pieces.
We'll alternate between learning the basics of handbuilding, wheel throwing, and glazing each week, so sign your kids up for multiple sessions to give them the full experience! Each student will proudly come out of class with at least one or two ceramic pieces that they built themselves. Ceramic artists and experienced teachers, Mindy Curran & Ben Alexander, will facilitate this class.
Some weeks, this offering will coincide with our ongoing Figure Painting class, meaning you'll get a sneak peek into the world of life drawing! These artists are okay with a reasonable amount of noise/disruption during class, but we ask everyone to be respectful of other classes. Figure models will wear kid-appropriate attire for these sessions.
Trimming, glazing or underglazing cannot be done on pottery that has just been made; please plan on booking another session to complete any trimming or glazing.
Space in our clay studio is limited, and in the interest of ensuring we can accommodate everyone, pre-registration for our clay offerings is a requirement. Showing up for an offering without registering through our website does not guarantee you a spot. You may be turned away.
Please bring with you:
- Clothes that can get dirty, and/or an apron
- Water in container with spill-proof lid
- Layered clothingWhile shelf space is included, we ask that you do not leave projects unattended in the studio for longer than 2 weeks at a time, to ensure we have enough shelf space for those who are actively working on a project. Additionally, please return to pick up finished pieces within 2 weeks of firing.
