Trappies Kop, Alladin Cave, Clovelly Cave, Blokhuiskop and Boomslang Cave

Details
Pack your hiking gear, grab your headlamp, and bring your sense of adventure as we explore the rugged caves, towering boulders and hidden nooks and crannies of Kalk Bay Mountains above Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay from Trappies Kop to Blokhuiskop and back.
Trappies is an Afrikaans word for steps and blokhuis refers to the giant square boulders above Blokhuiskop.
Trappies Kop is situated north of Fish Hoek and has an elevation of 240 meters above sea level. This small koppie provides excellent views over False Bay, Elsies Peak, Kalk Bay and the Clovelly Country Club.
Hikers with good fitness will experience panoramic views, explore the nooks and crannies of huge rock formations, discover unfamiliar caves and search for massive boulders such as Otter's Pocket Boulder, Drag Queen Boulder, Prickly Mnulty and lastly Braai Lord Boulder on easily-accessible paths. Caves such as Lower Alladin Cave and Clovelly Cave will be visited as well as Kroon se Bos forest and lastly Boomslang Cave.
Basic agenda:
This circular 10 km trail starts and ends at Boyes Drive at the large Echo Valley signboard. We will head towards Godfrey road from where the Trappieskop path starts. This path ascends gradually by 200 meters within the first 1.5 km to reach Trappies Kop. The splendid views make up for the effort to get here. Another steep climb follows towards Cave Peak to reach a path just below the southern exit of Boomslang Cave, passing by Lower Alladin Cave and also the awesome Clovelley Cave. The path gradually ascends through a sculptured garden with mountain fynbos and strange sculptured rock formations everywhere until Blokhuiskop is reached where Otter's Pocket Boulder and Drag Queen Boulder can be found.
A shortcut takes us down to Dooiemanspad (Dead man's path) that gradually ascends back towards a saddle and another cave.
We return via the Echo Valley trail passing by Kroon se bos which is an open picnic clearing, and then enter the Boomslang Cave. While not an inherently dangerous area, going to the boulders in groups is advised. Remember to remain vigilant at all times.
Please remember to bring a torch or headlamp to enter this cave, because you WILL need it. Entering from the northern side, requires crawling on your hands and knees until a large chamber is reached. From here on, you can walk upright in total darkness until the southern exit is reached.
At the southern exit, we turn left and pass by the Bonnydoon Bouldering site to descend back to Echo Valley. Our last break will be at Weary Willys before heading back to the cars at Boyes Drive.
