December Book Mal goes to war. Edward Ashton

Mal, a free-roaming AI, is initially an observer, scavenging for parts on the battlefield. When the Humanists cut off access to the infospace, Mal finds himself unexpectedly downloaded into the body of a recently deceased cyborg mercenary. Now in a physical body, Mal is forced to protect a young, augmented girl who was under the mercenary's care.
