Memorial Day biking from Winchester to Navy shipyard at Charlestown

Details

Join us for an exciting cycling adventure to USS Constitution Charlestown. We will start from Shannon Beach Winchester, ride through Medford along Mystic Parkway and Alewife Greenway to Alewife and Davis Square. From there, we will follow Somerville Community Path along Green Line Extension through Cambridge Crossing and Paul Revere Park to USS Constitution. We will enjoy Greater Boston's diverse neighborhoods, exploring sustainable transportation options and learning about urban design concepts that promote a healthier and more connected community. This event is perfect for anyone interested in fitness, road cycling, and outdoor activities.

The general moving speed is 12-13 MPH, depending on the traffic on the bike path. Majority of the biking routes will be off road, but some sections are bike lanes on the road. A hybrid or mountain bike is recommended but road bike will do as well. Please bring water, snacks/lunch, spare tube and pump. Helmet is required.

We will meet near the playground at Shannon beach parking lot. I don't expect the parking lot to be full at this time of the year, but you can also find several parking pull-offs along Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford. Please arrive a few minutes before 9:00AM so we can leave at 9:00AM sharp. Since we are passing through Alewife, you can also meet us at the end of Minutemen Bikeway at Alewife Station next to the Yates Pond around 9:30AM.

The total distance from Shannon Beach to USS Constitution is about 22 miles round trip. We will take water breaks along the ride, and when we get to USS Constitution, we will take a longer break, have snacks/lunch at Charlestown Navy Shipyard Park before heading back.
