What is this thing we call metaphor and how does it pertain to our brains? Are metaphors windows to a vast landscape of understand? Are they telescopes to magnify our perception? Are they bridges to span gaps of concepts, culture and experience? Are metaphors lanterns to illuminate abstract ideas?

Why does the mind think in these symbols or analogies? Is this a natural state or something we developed over time?
We often compare our brains to computers, but are they computers?
