This 2-hour workshop offers yoga students and teachers an accessible, ethical introduction to the use of aromatics within yoga spaces without crossing into aromatherapy scope of practice. Designed for both personal enrichment and professional development, the training blends evidence-informed education with a guided multisensory yoga experience.

Participants will have the opportunity to select a personal aromatic inhaler that aligns with their individual needs and intentions at the start of this workshop. This inhaler may be used during the workshop and taken home as a supportive tool for daily practice and mindful self-care.

Participants will learn how yoga therapy differs from yoga teaching, gain clarity around the professional scope of aromatherapists, and explore how essential oils may be offered safely and inclusively in yoga settings. The workshop emphasizes consent-based practices, opt-out options, and appropriate language for yoga teachers who wish to support their students’ sensory experience without making therapeutic or medical claims.

The educational portion includes a high-level overview of what essential oils are, how they are derived from plants, and why basic chemical composition matters when choosing aroma for stimulation, focus, or relaxation. Particular attention is given to shared-air environments and best practices for offering aroma in ways that respect individual sensitivities and nervous system diversity.

The workshop concludes with a guided 30-minute experiential practice integrating breath awareness, gentle movement, meditation, and rest. Each component is paired with an optional aromatic experience to help participants feel (rather than simply learn) how scent can support intention, presence, and nervous system regulation in yoga practice.

The workshop fee includes 2 hours of live instruction and experiential practice, eligibility for 2 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for teachers, all aromatic materials used during the session, a personal essential oil inhaler selected by each participant for use during the workshop and at home, and a curated educational email summarizing key concepts, safety considerations, and practical guidance for integrating aromatics into yoga practice with awareness and consent.

    About the Facilitator:
Carrie Lamberson, MS, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP, is a yoga therapist and certified aromatherapist with a background in cognitive neuroscience. Her work bridges clinical understanding, ethical practice, and embodied experience, offering yoga professionals clear guidance on integrating complementary tools responsibly and within scope.

Notes on Take Home Personal Inhalers:
The personal inhalers used in this workshop are intentionally selected as a low-waste, reusable option for integrating aromatics into yoga and self-care practices. Each inhaler is designed for repeated use over many weeks, can be refreshed or refilled rather than discarded, and eliminates the need for shared air diffusion, cotton pads, or disposable applicators. This approach supports both environmental sustainability and consent- based practice, allowing individuals to engage with aroma only if and when they choose.
