Details

The Presentation:
Communicating with non-experts: Storytelling, programming metaphors and why you should give me all your minions

A story by Amanda Miotto

Building systems can be intricate work, designs that relate to multiple dependencies and systems. It can be quite difficult to sometimes explain their setups and quirks to experts, let alone non experts.

In this talk, you'll learn about :

  • An introduction to using Storytelling methods to convey the impact of your research
  • How you can use metaphors to break down technical concepts
  • Where to start when it comes to bringing technical changes in a community

Our Presenter:
Amanda Miotto is an eResearch Senior Analyst and Software Developer for Griffith University. She started off in the field of Bioinformatics and learnt to appreciate the beauty of science before discovering the joys of coding. She is also heavily involved in Software Carpentry, Hacky Hours and Brisbane's Research Bazaar conference, and has worked on platforms around HPC, microscopy & scientific database portals.
