he Presentation:
Recently, I was asked to give a talk around Learning Data Science at home for new PhD students at my university. While I put together some slides from my own experience, this talk could be a lot better, and I'm not the best person to write this talk- you are!
As people working in Data Scientists, I would love to hear what skills and subjects you feel essential as part of your role. While I've worked in the 'third space' in the Research tech space, I am not a researcher per se, and my path will be different to many others. Your stories, history and advice would be invaluable. Please come along and tell me about your careers! Tell me about things you discovered and found super useful in your travels. Tell me about the things you learnt at university that you've never looked at again. And please share the lessons you wish you could teach your younger self.
As a student learning Data Science - tell me what you're not sure about. Tell me what crossroads in your education you are stuck at. Tell me about advice you found helpful. And tell me if these slides don't make sense.
Disclaimer- One of the resources I do suggest are QCIF workshops as I'm the Griffith University/QCIF analyst, which Qld University researchers can attend for free. I do also mention workshops that are for Griffith university only. I'm likely to use the learnings from this seminar in my future talks through QCIF, and through other tertiary conferences. I'm more than happy for anyone to use anything in my slides with attributions, or to fork my list of free useful tutorials via github.
The event is to be held online, with official kick-off at 6:00 pm.
