What we’re about
Welcome to the only Meetup group in Brisbane dedicated to mobile app development for Android, iOS and Cross Platform.
Every two months or so we meet to listen to news, insights and presentations from industry leaders. We also showcase member projects, both professional and personal.
Our meets are also a great place for developers or anyone interested in the mobile app and startup communities to network, collaborate on projects or seek career advice and opportunities.
Whether you are a developer, engineer, designer, project manager, MBA, cyber security professional or entrepreneur, this group is for anyone with an interest in mobile applications.
When meeting IRL is an option again - each year with support from Queensland University of Technology we also run a hackathon that is not to be missed.
This annual event sees teams building a functioning prototype app (either Android or iOS) for a Brisbane startup based on their real world needs and judged by industry experts. It’s a great opportunity to work on a fun project, win great prizes and give students in particular a wonderful insight into what it takes to take a project from idea stage and get it into the market.
Recordings of the talks will be posted on Youtube whenever possible:

Multiplatform to the City - #Mobile
Karan Sharma
Thinking about building a public transport app? This talk covers using Compose Multiplatform (CMP) to support iOS and Android while keeping things native. Beyond the tech—Jetpack Compose, Ktor, SQLDelight, Koin. We’ll explore how to design for real-world use: what data matters most to commuters, how to surface key info quickly, and ways to keep the experience smooth and reliable.Transforming Engineering Report Writing with Gemini Vision - #AI
Derek Van Tonder & Andrew Davis
Learn how we used Gemini Vision to code a product that automates tedious civil engineering documentation, turning days of work into minutes.Prezzee + KMP - Transition from native to Multiplatform - #Mobile
Kirill Glushchenko & Carlos Monzón
A case study that elaborates on how we adapted two native mobile apps (Android & iOS) into Multiplatform
Technical challenges and team challenges to be aware.Content Trust in Chrome: SynthID Meets cheqd #AI
Paul Ashley
Discover how content trust shifts from central servers into users’ hands via microcredentials and micro-fees. In this talk, we’ll illustrate SynthID-based AI-content detection running in-worker, the lifecycle of a cheqd VC, and how CHEQ micropayments overlay a pay-per-scan model on the cheqd network. Through architectural diagrams and annotated code snippets, you’ll see how to compose these pieces, and we’ll cap it with a demo.Agentic AI with Gemma 3 using Keras #AI
Leong Lai Fong
Gemma is a family of lightweight, generative artificial intelligence (AI) open models. Most common AIs today are reactive. They respond to specific commands, like a smart speaker playing music when asked. They’re useful, but can only do what they’re told. In contrast, Agentic AI is proactive and autonomous. It makes its own decisions to reach goals. In this session, you will learn how to use Gemma with a form of AI called Agentic AI, which offers a different way to use Large Language Models (LLMs).
Augmented AI Interactions: Enhancing Human Decision-Making Beyond Algorithmic Limits #AI
Mike Nedelko
This session explores how to design AI products that augment, rather than replace, human interaction. Drawing on findings from cognitive science, we’ll examine how System 1 (intuitive) and System 2 (analytical) thinking expose key limitations in current AI solutions. Concepts like implicit bias, coherence, attention, association, and WYSIATI ("What You See Is All There Is") show how users make decisions in ways AI struggles to support fully.I included a short VDO pitch here: https://youtu.be/TLfcdlx0Bh4
We'll cover:
• How cognitive biases and heuristics impact decision-making and create a “solutions ceiling” for standalone AI.
• Where AI fails to align with System 1 vs. System 2 thinking, leading to poor user outcomes.
• Case studies where AI underperforms in isolation, especially in personalisation, risk, and decision support.
• Innovative design approaches that integrate cognitive science, allowing AI to enhance human judgment instead of replacing it.
