Blues on Broadbeach Free Musical Festival at the Gold Coast

Details

Blues on Broadbeach is a 4 day almost totally free musical festival across multiple stages in the Broadbeach Precinct on the Gold Coast. We will be going to the great free lineup on Saturday.

PLEASE READ THE DETAILS OF THIS EVENT CAREFULLY TO AVOID CONFUSION

How the festival works
There are multiple stages across Broadbeach. The map of the event is here. https://bluesonbroadbeach.com/storage/2025/04/EGC-EV-BOB25-FestivalMap-General-297x210mm-DIGITAL.pdf

It is an open festival, so there are bars, restaurants, takeaway places, cafes and shops etc dotted around the area, But no alcohol outside of licenced venues, but also no gates where they check your bags.

How will we get together
I plan to get there by 3 pm. I have planned out a list of artists and times that include local, indigenous, American (from Memphis), female commercial rock artists to get a good selection of music, so I will go to each stage just before they start with my red ribbon on a stick so you can find me.

So you can arrive and leave when you want, go off to see artists that you want, get food or drinks as you please and then know where to find us next. You will find street artists and random performers around the area, so it can be fun just to wander around, but with the crowds I don't want to lead a group to do this.

My schedule

  • 3:30 to 4:45 pm - Radical Son in Kurrawa Park: Artist is of indigenous Australian and Tongan descent
  • 4:45 pm - 6pm - Queenie in Victoria Park: Australian artist with a great blues jazz vocal style
  • 6 pm - 7 pm - Dinner time, probably grab some takeaway and meet in Kurrawa Park
  • 7 pm - 8:15 pm - Eric Gales in Kurrawa Park: True blues guitarist from Memphis
  • 8:45 pm - 10 pm - The Cruel Sea in Kurrawa Park: Great Australian rock band with blues guitar riffs and blues vocal styling
  • 10 pm - I am off home, but music continues to midnight

How to find us

  • Before the start of each session I will be down the back of the stage with a red ribbon on a stick.
  • Once the music starts I will want to get into it so I am not standing around long with a ribbon on a stick
  • But I will hand out red ribbons for people to put on their wrists, tie on on clothes to style their hair with, so you hopefully can still find us as a group and spot other group members in the crowd
  • You might want to bring your own red ribbon if you have it

What to bring

  • Jacket: Yes it gets cold at night on the Gold Coast by the beach in May. Bring a jacket for the cold weather. It will probably colder than you expect.
  • Umbrella or raincoat: There is a small chance of rain on saturday, so bring something for the rain, even if it is just a travel poncho or umbrella.
  • Snacks: There are lots of places to buy food but it gets busy, and there are not vendors at the stages themselves, so maybe bring a few snacks to keep up your dancing energy.
  • Red ribbon: A red ribbon to wear.

How I will be getting there
I am planning to take the train down. I will be on the train that leaves South Brisbane Station at 12:37 pm and I will sit in the rear carriage of the train. So you can join me if you want. Post in the comments if you are joining me on the train.

How to get there
Driving is a good option, but remember, parking could be very limited. You might want to park somewhere along the G:link tram line and take the tram in. You can also pre-book parking spots on Broadbeach.

From Brisbane a combination of train, bus and G:link rail should get you to Broadbeach. There are trains all night back to Brisbane, though for most people, you want to leave before 10 pm to connect to local bus and ferry services in Brisbane.

Car Pooling
If you are driving, let others know and maybe people can carpool down to the Gold Coast
