What we’re about
Do you love walking, dogs and exploring new places? Canberra Dog Walks offers guided social walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. We are a friendly and welcoming group that's been running since 2016. Generally our walks:
- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.
We offer more than 30 different dog friendly walking routes all over Canberra, and even a few in Queanbeyan and Bungendore, so it's a great way to explore new neighbourhoods.
All walkers are welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment. Many of our walks include shorter options for those not wanting to walk the whole route.
Please go to our FAQ page for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly.
Membership of this group is $7.50 per year, due within 30 days of joining, but your first walk is free. Payment of the membership fee can be made directly through Meetup (however the charge will be in US dollars), or by attending a walk within 30 days of joining and paying the walk guide directly (when the charge will be in Australia dollars).
We also ask $7.50 from each adult participating in a walk (except for their first walk as per above). Payment is made directly to the guide, who uses a card reader, when you turn up for the walk. No cash is accepted.
These payments help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs. The group is run on a not-for-profit basis with any excess funds donated to RSPCA Canberra and the ACT Pet Crisis Fund.
To find out more detail about our fees, please go to our FAQ page or message the organiser directly.

Important
- All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour. By rsvping to a scheduled walk, you understand and agree to this condition.
- We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, especially in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone has a pleasant experience.

See all- Saturday Fraser walk - off leash tracks, city viewsFraser Cafe, FraserAUD 7.50
A new walk in Fraser! Help Georgia test out this new northside walk on a group which incorporates Mt Rogers Reserve. The route features lots of relaxed off leash time in a contained, pleasant, bush-like reserve as well as some nice city views for us humans.
The walk is approximately 4.5 km along paved footpaths and well-formed dirt tracks with an uphill section at the beginning. It will take approximately 90 minutes with a group.
The walk starts and ends at the Fraser Café, off Daley Crescent, just near the corner of Tillyard Drive in Fraser. (The little loop off Daley Crescent also includes a pizza joint and an Indian restaurant.) There is plenty of free parking here and toilets available in the Indian restaurant.
We start on leash on a paved path walking uphill for the first 600 metres or so, until we reach Mt Rogers Reserve.
Off leash time starts here and continues for the whole loop of the hill, approximately 3 km, following an easy, wide dirt track. The track around the hill is mainly flat with only a few undulations.
After completing the circuit, we retrace our steps on leash and downhill along the footpath, back to our starting point for optional coffee, brunch or lunch at the super, dog friendly, Fraser Café.

A Sunday stroll in Mt Rogers Reserve! Help Georgia test out this new northside walk with a group. The route features lots of relaxed off leash time in a contained, pleasant, bush-like reserve as well as some nice city views for us humans.
The walk is approximately 3-3.5 km along well-formed dirt tracks with some gentle undulations, looping around the base of Mt Rogers. It will take approximately 60 minutes with a group.
Our route enters off leash space pretty much straight away, but we will manage how and when each dog starts their off leash time depending on the mix of dogs on the day.
The walk starts and ends at the Mt Rogers Reserve carpark at the end of Wickens Place in Fraser. There is plenty of free parking here. The excellent Fraser Café is very short drive away for pre or post walk coffees and meals, as well as access to toilets.

- Wednesday Curtin walk - a favourite off-leash experience version 2Meet outside Coles Supermarket, Curtin Shops, CanberraAUD 7.50
Join us in one of our favourite Canberra suburbs for providing dogs with extensive - and safe - off leash opportunities.
We'll follow a circular route of around 5 km through a series of interconnected parks, including along Curtin ridge. The off leash opportunities start after about 10 minutes and comprise more than half of the route.
For humans, there are attractive mountain and city views from various points on the Curtin ridge.
The walk is likely to take a bit over 90 minutes at a relaxed pace, including a few stops along the way to offer our dogs water, enjoy the views, and to let me take some group photos!
This is not a difficult walk, but there is a gradual, sustained uphill section during the first third of the walk - with the reward of those nice views :) We'll be walking on paved footpaths, dirt tracks and across grassy ovals.
There's plenty of free parking at the Curtin shops and a good Coles if you want to catch up on your grocery shopping while you're there. Plus a great dog friendly café for an after-walk coffee or brunch.
For more information about the route, see our website.

- Saturday Ngunnawal walk - off leash frolics and panoramic viewsIGA Ngunnawal, CanberraAUD 7.50
Come on this pretty and pram friendly wander through a series of interconnected parks in Ngunnawal, starting and ending at the tiny Ngunnawal shopping centre in Riley Close. (Note - this is NOT the main Ngunnawal shopping centre off Jabanungga Ave.)
The walk has several off leash sections, features outstanding panoramic views, and totals approximately 4 km. There is a hill climb on this walk - to reach that amazing view - but it is such a gentle, gradual climb that you will probably be surprised when you reach the pinnacle.
We'll walk on paved paths and some dirt tracks (but there are parallel paved alternative paths). There is free parking in a small carpark opposite the IGA and in quiet, nearby streets. And there is now a little cafe at the shops for those needing their after-walk coffee fix.
To see more detail about the walk and a google map of the route, see our website here.
