Here in Bend, we do things a little differently come New Years Eve. While there are those that seek out bright lights, live music and dancing, some of us seek out entertainment in other ways--traipsing along a snowy trail seeking the warmth of a woodstove situated inside of a shelter. There, we imbibe, bring goodies to share, make friendships, and come midnight bring in the new year in our special style.

One time someone brought sparklers, another time we shared in the tradition with an exchange student from China. "Best New Years ever!" he proclaimed.

We carpool from Bend and make our way to the sno-park. The snowshoe trek to the shelter is only 1 3/4 miles, one-way. There we keep the fire in the stove burning, imbibe, dance around with sparklers, and nosh. Please do bring things to share. Last year someone brought a Bluetooth speaker and a play list on their phone. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to the sno-park.

What to bring? A headlamp with new and extra batteries, cold weather wear, hand and foot warmers, a pad to sit on, hot or cold beverages, GOODIES TO SHARE, and a smile.

I will need a couple of drivers (with sno-park passes) to volunteer their vehicles. For safety's sake I recommend that drivers stash a hydroflask full of hot coffee for the drive back to Bend.

More details to be announced.
