Join us for a special screening of the acclaimed 2012 film Beasts of the Southern Wild, presented as a companion event to the CFI Western New York Secular Book Club’s July reading, Strangers in Their Own Land by Arlie Russell Hochschild.

Set in the southern Louisiana bayou, Beasts of the Southern Wild tells the story of a fiercely independent community facing the existential threats of climate change, poverty, and environmental disaster. Through the eyes of its unforgettable young protagonist, Hushpuppy, the film offers a poetic and emotionally resonant portrait of resilience, identity, and the power of community in the face of overwhelming odds.

Whether you're reading along with the book club or simply curious about the intersecting themes of place, identity, and survival in contemporary America, this is an event not to miss.

Come for the film, stay for the discussion!
