📅 The Generative Generation: Exploring the Impact of Generative AI on Democracy

Details: We’ll explore how generative AI technologies impact our ability to be reliably informed, civically engaged and personally empowered.
We’ll examine how AI-generated summaries and chatbots can influence what we “know,” as well as their impact on original content producers and on our personal relationships. We’ll discuss the effect of AI-generated images and “slop” on our social media feeds and practice strategies for distinguishing real photos and videos from synthetic fabrications. We’ll close with a discussion about the broader effects of AI on our information environment – including how it changes the nature of civic participation and disrupts our conceptions of “evidence” – and consider how we want to interact with AI going forward.
