After a Q&A, Dr. Brad Campbell will give a snapshot of Rust in the IoT/embedded world—what’s working, what’s still hard, and where the ecosystem is headed—drawing on his long-running work on the Rust-based operating system Tock.

Speakers Bio:
Simeon Fitch is a software engineer focused on quantitative applications and distributed systems, and currently builds RF spectrum intelligence applications in Rust. He’s a strong believer in type systems as a practical path to robust, maintainable software. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Charter Member of OSGeo, recipient of 2 R&D 100 awards, a patent, and co-author on over 20 technical papers.
Dr. Brad Campbell is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia and a member of the Tock Core Working Group. His research focuses on systems for ubiquitous and embedded computing, from IoT and wearables to smart buildings and cities. He has published extensively on building secure, scalable embedded systems and was a co-author of early papers making the case for writing operating systems kernels in Rust.
