This 11-mile circular walk from Ibstone Common offers a rewarding mix of scenic views, peaceful woodland trails, rolling hills, and (hopefully) also a pub stop.

The walk starts with a pleasant downhill stretch through woodland followed by a stroll through sheep-filled fields. Do not let this lull you into a false sense of security however, as pretty soon we tackle the first hill of the day through Blackmoor Wood and into the village of Northend.

Aside from a few small bumps, the next stretch is mostly downhill, weaving through woodland and open countryside. We then ascend the second hill to reach our lunch spot, with great views (if the weather behaves).

The route continues through Turville Heath, and after a third short climb, we enjoy a long downhill into the village of Turville. If there’s space in the garden of the Bull and Butcher pub we’ll pause to refuel before taking on the fourth (and steepest) hill of the day up to Cobstone Windmill. Built in 1816 the windmill has featured in various films and TV shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Once we reach the top, we’ll have just enough time to catch our breath and admire the view before heading straight back down the other side. The final fifth hill spans the last three miles starting gently, then building to a steeper finish as we return to Ibstone.
