What we’re about
A hobby can blossom into something greater, the more you’re surrounded by likeminded people. Within this group I’m attempting to create a space where we can add to each other’s experience of pursuing a hobby, maybe with a chance to catch inspiration, a motivating environment, an opportunity to socialize around common interests, or just plainly a change of scenery. Since I didn't find a group like this that I'd enjoy, I've decided to start one.
We’ll have events both during weekdays and during weekends. Some of the ideas I have so far:
• Crafting home decorations
• Writing poetry or short stories about a specific topic
• Playing easy-to-learn board games
• Drawing based on a common theme
• Creating origami figures
Feel free to suggest other activities and to give feedback, during the events or through a private message on Meetup.
Why just indoors? --- I thought about how much to extend the scope of the activities and I found it best to limit ourselves just to indoor activities. This will give us enough liberty to practice several hobbies, and enough means to make the space safe.
The rules, during the events and during the interaction on Meetup:
- This group is meant to foster connection, community, and healthy attitude towards hobbies. The quality of our time spent in this group depends on how well we manage to create this environment.
- A positive attitude towards our work is highly encouraged. Please refrain from unsolicited critique.
- I will stick with activities that are physically and psychologically safe, but keep in mind that, ultimately, we’re all responsible for our safety. Also, if you have concerns about something, inform me, and I will do my best to sort it out.
- I won’t take any photos during the events, because I believe that everyone should have privacy by default in this group. If you wish to have pictures of your work published on the Meetup group, send them to me and I will add them.

Out of ideas for what to draw? Or maybe you need some motivation to begin, from people around you?
I propose we gather in the Main Library and express ourselves through drawing, based on a popular aesthetic. We’ll need to come prepared with a pencil and some paper (and any other drawing utensils you would like to use). Additionally, you can Google for an aesthetic that resonates with you beforehand. A neat list of popular aesthetics I found:
- Full list: https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Aesthetics
- By decade: https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Aesthetics_by_Decade
- More categories: https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Aesthetics_by_Family
We’ll start with a round of introductions, and then we’ll get to searching and drawing. In the last part we’ll present our drawings. You can either share the aesthetic you were inspired from and talk about it, or let others guess and see how it’s perceived.
(make sure to check the group rules from the group description before RSVPing)
