A Creative Mindset Masterclass
What does your creative work need from you right now?
Monday 5 October 2026 | 12.30–1.30pm | Online via Zoom
What if knowing when to stop is part of becoming a better creative?
Writers are encouraged to pay attention to the world around us, but we don't always pay the same attention to ourselves. We can become so determined to keep writing that we stop noticing when we're depleted, when we've lost perspective, or when our attention needs a change.
In this 60-minute interactive masterclass, we'll explore creative rest and recovery through neuroscience, writing practice and personal reflection.
We'll look at why creative thinking needs both focused attention and more open, spontaneous thought, why stepping away can sometimes help us return to a problem differently, and how to recognise the signals that tell us what our own creative work needs.
We'll also make space for some very simple forms of rest: walking, noticing, reading for pleasure, being in nature and, yes, staring out the window.
You'll leave with
- a better understanding of your own creative signals
- practical ways to distinguish persistence from depletion and avoidance
- a simple framework for knowing whether you need focus, wandering, recovery or simply some time living
- exercises for giving creative problems space
- a personal creative recovery menu to return to when you need it
$22 (incl. GST)
The session is online via Zoom and will be recorded for anyone who can't attend live.
