We'll then travel further afield and take a quick look at global laws that can impact Australian businesses.

We'll look at:

* Law enforcement access to data
* Taxation obligations
* Data retention obligations
* Breach reporting
* Q&A

These laws are important so you don't run afoul of them by accident, but also so you can be intentional about the data you record, the vendors you use and how you validate customer data. Even if you're not responsible for compliance yourself, understanding the business needs will help make your day to day work more effective.

This month's meetup will be run by Nicola Nye, Chief of Staff at Fastmail. She notes she is not a lawyer, but she's spent plenty of time and money talking to lawyers and now knows enough to be annoying to anyone who says loyalty schemes are a good idea.
