🎤 Talk 1: Optimising Port Operations with Advanced Analytics
Speaker: Paweł Kołodziejczyk | Macomi
Bio
Paweł Kołodziejczyk is a problem solver with a passion for using data-driven models to tackle complex organisational challenges. He has over 10 years of experience designing and delivering decision-support and policy-making tools in the transportation domain. Paweł is a strong advocate of rule-based methodologies with causal relationships, particularly simulation-driven approaches.

Abstract
Planning vessel approaches to ports is a complex task influenced by nautical conditions and infrastructure constraints. Macomi is a world-leading developer of sea lock planning algorithms that enable operational excellence while minimising system delays.
With increasing pressure from climate change, Macomi is expanding its solutions to improve infrastructure usage during draught limitations and help conserve freshwater resources. In this talk, Paweł will demonstrate how advanced analytics and better planning can optimise multiple objectives simultaneously — reducing delays, improving sustainability, and lowering the need for costly new infrastructure investments.

🎤 Talk 2
Speaker: Annebelle Bettman
Bio
Annebelle Bettman is a Business Intelligence Expert at Refuels, where she focuses on transforming sustainability data into actionable insights. With a background in decision analytics, her work sits at the intersection of data, strategy, and execution—ensuring that insights don’t just inform, but actively drive action. She is at the end of a Master’s degree researching how Business Intelligence insights influence decision-making and organisational behaviour, with a particular focus on closing the gap between dashboards and real-world outcomes.

Abstract
As organisations pursue sustainability goals, data is often abundant—but meaningful action is not. In this talk, I explore how Business Intelligence can act as a critical enabler of sustainable decision-making, drawing on my work at Refuels and my Master’s research on BI-driven action. Using real-world examples from the renewable fuels sector, I will discuss how sustainability data is operationalised, the common reasons dashboards fail to influence decisions, and the conditions under which insights successfully translate into action. I will also introduce a practical theoretical framework that links data, insight, decision-making, and execution. This session is aimed at data scientists and analytics professionals interested in moving beyond models and metrics to create measurable, sustainable impact through data.
